On ace's reboot of 2026-10-28 every unit had stopped within 17 s, yet the bus and
polkit were started again during the shutdown, nothing stopped them a second
time, and the reboot waited on reboot.target's 30-minute job timeout, silent,
until the operator forced it. node-power owns the shutdown on every machine, so
its drop-ins on reboot, poweroff and halt shorten the bound; each target keeps
its own forcing action, so the last phase still ends every process, unmounts
and syncs. The cause, node-tools starting bundles again while it stops, is
fixed in mesh-tools.
Modules talk over the bus. The power module's bundle puts each fresh reading of its own
sampler in its state draw, keyed by the machine; the bar's block shows that state, which
the bar's bundle watches under the read the mesh grants it. A new catalogue check refuses
a module naming another module's path under /run or /var/lib.
Intel shows some packages twice (MSR and MMIO), an AMD card's sensors wake it, and a
counter reset after resume read as thousands of watts. The loop's cadence and the bar
script's staleness are now tested, and the sampler running on every machine is said.
The bar left the battery out because it belongs to whoever knows the hardware, and had
no way to take it back in. i3status-rust now renders bar-neutral blocks through its
template; the power module contributes the battery where the machine reports one and
the power draw where something measures it, sampling the root-only energy counter as
root and publishing only a rate. The memory block shows what programs hold, the figure
memory-pressure judges by, instead of counting the cache as used.
On one server the watcher reported a lock that logind did not list. A descriptor that is not an
inhibitor reference is never wrapped (0 would be the bundle's stdin, its channel to the runtime), and
every poll checks the lock is still held, taking it again and saying why when it is not.
The host reads a one-shot that is not running as having run, so a before-sleep or after-wake unit
declared stopped failed on its first apply; drop-ins on the sleep targets pull them in instead.
Code around sleep was written into the service manager's sleep units by the module that needed it,
and the mesh could not tell a sleeping machine from a lost one. power runs every module's code for
the six moments, each piece bounded, owns logind's power handling from its settings, and says
booted, sleeping, woke, shutting-down and the power source on the bus, sleeping under logind's
delay lock before the machine sleeps.
