The module named /var/lib/letta, a layout no definition may carry (ADR
0112); state is now a placed directory holding the bindings and secrets.
letta had no route, while the server it replaces is reached by its public
name (a workflow calls it there). It now contributes one for its `web`
endpoint; reach is the assignment's.
The server needs an OpenAI key for agents on OpenAI models, and nothing
gave it one: `openai-api-key` is an own-secret, accepted from the
operator (a key someone chose, not one the mesh can mint). The
server-password is accepted the same way where a server already has
clients. Both, and the database password inside LETTA_PG_URI, stay in the
server's environment: letta 0.6.x reads settings from the environment
only, and its startup.sh starts an embedded PostgreSQL unless
LETTA_PG_URI is set - the declared reason now says so.
The runtime's tools never authenticated: the client sent only a Bearer
token, and 0.6.x's --secure mode checks X-BARE-PASSWORD ("password <it>")
and answers 401 otherwise. The client now sends both. Its password comes
from the runtime config file (the key client.ts reads first) instead of an
env-file, so the runtime container no longer carries a secret in its
environment.
Image: the same 0.6.8 image, now pinned by the index digest ace runs
rather than its amd64 manifest.
Verified: catalogue tests with MESH_CATALOGUE set; tsc -p tsconfig.json in
the mesh-tools build image. Throwaway containers: a fresh 0.6.8 with its
embedded PG and two blocks made through the API; stopped, copied, dumped
from the copy; restored (schema letta + vector pre-made by the superuser,
--no-owner --role, search_path set on the database as the original had
it) into a grant-shaped database on the postgres module's pgvector image
(PG17); started in this shape: alembic finds nothing to do, both blocks
are there, a wrong password is refused with 401, and the patched client
lists agents. Test containers and data removed.
75 endpoints across 50 modules, named from what each one is for rather than by a
rule: mail's seven protocol ports are smtp, imaps, submission and the rest; unifi's
nine are inform, stun, discovery, the two portal ports and syslog; minio's two are
s3 and console; the resolver's two are dns-udp and dns-tcp.
And 35 route contributions name the endpoint they serve instead of repeating its
port. A route and a listen both carried a port and nothing said they were the same
thing; now one of them does. gitea's path-level deny rule names neither, because it
is a rule about a name rather than an endpoint.
novox/hq ADR 0138. The words shipped a release ahead in mesh-controller #138 and
#139, and the control plane running today is built from that merge — checked before
this was written, because an unknown manifest key is refused and a catalogue using
one against an older control plane would stop resolving.
From the survey of every env-file secret (ADR 0086, issue 041): amqp-ping,
minio, mongodb and grafana use the _FILE twin their software honours;
mesh-catalog and model-usage read DATABASE_URL_FILE (a file the mesh
templates, mounted where only the runtime reads it); grafana's secret files
belong to its own account. Two dead deliveries removed: a line nothing read
in amqp-email-forwarder, and mailu's secret.env on four containers that
never read it. The 25 exceptions that remain carry the surveyed reason —
convertible and awaiting a bed, convertible through a generated config file,
the application's own code, or not convertible.
ADR 0086. mesh-controller mounts its six own secrets and names them with
_FILE twins, so no credential of its own reaches its environment. The 35
containers that still read a secret through an env-file carry
secrets-in-environment with the reason; converting each where its software
accepts a path is the per-module work of issue 041.
The 21 media/home modules, the SaaS tool modules (cloudflare-dns,
confluence, gitlab, jira), model-usage, and the model-access trio get
the same Dockerfile + build section as batch 1. Scheduled-only modules
(anthropic-consumer, anthropic-manager, openai-consumer) deliberately
declare no MESH_TOOL_MODULES — every container of theirs names its
command. mosquitto's run-once bootstrap container builds from the same
artifact. Modules with third-party deps (model-usage: pg;
anthropic-manager: tweetnacl) install them beside their compiled code.
Also fixes cloudflare-dns's package.json, unparseable since its
description lost a closing quote.
Deliberately still without build sections: builder and mesh-controller
(the foundation builds them by its own path), distribution (provides
the artifact store — building it through itself is refused by design),
route-proxy (cross-repo build context, deferred), and the
upstream-image-only modules, which have no code to build.
The postgres provisioner creates each consumer a database named after the login the mesh
minted (mesh_<node>_<module>), per ADR 0048 -- 'a same-named database under exactly that
login'. But baserow, letta, umami, gitea, keycloak and nextcloud each hardcoded their app db
name (DATABASE_NAME=baserow, /letta, /umami, NAME=gitea, /keycloak, POSTGRES_DB=nextcloud),
so the service connected to a database that does not exist ('database letta does not exist').
Each now uses ${bound:postgres-database:as} as the db name -- the login, which is also the db
name -- matching the working meshboard pattern and the provisioner's actual behaviour.
Found by the two-node DB-consumer lab install (mesh-lab assigned-two-node-db); baserow is
proven connecting and running there. The S3 bucket name is the same class of assumption and is
a separate follow-up (s3 identity has its own length bound).

Mirror the postgres-consumer shape (keycloak/nextcloud): requires the
backing service(s), binds/secrets for the delivered credential, and a
server container that reads it from an interpolated env file.
- baserow: consumes postgres-database + redis-cache; tooled (dormant
until an account is configured, like gitea's token).
- letta: consumes postgres-database; tooled, live via a mesh-minted
server-password injected into both server and runtime.
- invoicing: consumes mongodb-database + s3-bucket; plain two-container
service (app + api), no tools.
Digests pinned for baserow and letta; invoicing keeps private-registry
tags (DIGEST-UNRESOLVED). redis-cache and mongodb-database consumer
shapes are inferred (no prior consumer in the catalog).
