The controller pastes a setting into daemon.json as text and the runtime is its
only reader, so a bad size would surface as a runtime that does not start and a
quote could add any key. A step refuses the value first and gates the module.
The defaults are the one hand-set machine's, so it does not change; nothing
restarts the runtime, which takes the keys at its next start.

- The dnsmasq watch restarts only a unit that runs, without waiting for
its start; a unit stopped, starting or failed is held and said (C2).
- dnsmasq_resolve asks only an address the resolver listens on (C3).
- Tests for the watch loop keeping its budget, a watch that wrote nothing
or stopped looking, and a unit not running (C4).
- A restart is remembered as said only once emitted, restarts made before
the bundle started are said, and whether one helped is said (C5).
- docker_events reads the runtime's whole buffer: complete when it is not
full or reaches past the window, never a quiet machine read as lost (C6).
- netcheck: refused read with errors. Is; tests for addresses and ports,
and for a container named as docker knows it.
On 2026-10-09 the control node's route-proxy failed every lookup against 10.10.0.1 alone for twenty
minutes while the machine's file listed both mesh resolvers; its copy lives under the runtime's
root-only directory and no tool read it. docker_resolv_conf reads /etc/resolv.conf as the container
sees it through the runtime's archive (docker cp, no exec), parses it, and says whether it lists the
same resolvers as the machine.
docker_events asked for three hours across the 2026-10-09 resolver outage on the control node answered
zero events: the runtime keeps only its last ~256 events in memory, and health-check execs filled them
with the last ten minutes. The answer now carries held, oldest_held and complete, and a history line
when the window reaches further back than what the runtime still holds. The type filter moves into the
tool, since the history's start is only known from all of it.
Images pulled by digest are not dangling, so the weekly prune never takes an old version
and every machine keeps every image it ever ran. docker_prune_images takes them, keeps what
the declaration names (asked of the controller; no answer, nothing removed) and the one before,
and is a dry run unless asked with a why.

An agent meets the mesh's words most often in tool descriptions, and
nothing compared them with the glossary: several still said "the host"
for the node-engine and the forge's pull request comment was headed
"Change plan", a word retired twice over. retired-words is the copy of
the words the glossary retires for the tools, and checks/words fails the
repository check when any string a module's code can show, or any
manifest description, uses one. Those found are reworded here.

mosquitto passed the broker's admin password to mosquitto_ctrl as -P on
every docker exec, and the container runtime keeps every exec's command
line in its event stream, where docker_events returned it. The admin
credentials now reach mosquitto_ctrl as a 0600 options file fed on
stdin, client passwords at its own prompt, and an argv carrying a secret
is refused before it runs. The admin secret says it is taken at start:
the bootstrap re-runs when the mesh replaces it and re-keys the broker
online from the value it last applied, so it can be rotated.
docker_events redacts what an exec's command line carried, and
docker_secrets_in_events names such secrets by name. keycloak's repair
hands kcadm its passwords through KC_CLI_PASSWORD; minio gives mc its
root alias through MC_HOST_mesh.
letta printed two passwords into its log for weeks and nothing noticed,
and docker_logs handed them to whoever asked. docker_secrets_in_logs
compares each container's recent lines with the secret-named values of
its environment, the passwords in its URIs, and any URI carrying a
password, and names what it found by container, module and variable -
never the value. docker_logs redacts the same values before answering.
The controller's private network writes insecure-registries into daemon.json, a file this
module owns. The runtime's module states it instead, through ${seat:mesh-artifact-store:reach}
(hq ADR 0222), so the controller can stop generating its registry-trust resources.
resolv-conf would have taken over dnsmasq's write into daemon.json — the same defect issue 190
names. docker, on every machine, now writes live-restore and reloads its own service. Log rotation
is left as each machine has it.
Claims node-container-runtime (ADR 0207). Owns the packages, the socket and a weekly
prune of dangling images and unused build cache. Serves 18 tools over every container,
marking the mesh's. daemon.json, docker.service and the docker group are left to a
proposed change: dnsmasq and zsh declare them today, and the controller refuses a
second declaration (README).
