Issue 1974: with no argument, operator-channel.asks answered every ask of the last month (743,546 characters on 2026-11-06 21:41, its third meeting), too large for a session to read.
Quick fix, chosen on the issue (note of 21:51): with no key, state or since the verb answers open asks only; every answer is bounded (32768 bytes unless the caller gives a bound) and says what it cut and how to ask for more. state: all is new; a key finds an ask in any state, as playbook 07's waits need. The answer is always {asks, matched, cut?, default?}. The thorough fix (every growing read verb bounded by default, held by a check) stays a note on the issue.
Tests: rows added to TestTheAsksVerbNarrowsItsAnswer (no new test function); go vet with and without the integration tag and go test pass in modules/messenger; the reviewer showed the test fails without each part. The repository checks owned, paths, predefined, sdkjudge, secrets and templates fail locally on this branch and on a clean main alike (they need sibling checkouts the check provides).
