An agent following a rollout had plans answer once, in prose, and polled the
console with a curl loop of its own to be told a plan moved. plans now takes
wait (a plan's id), until (moved, tier or done) and bound, and answers when the
plan moves or the bound passes, saying which, with the plan as data and its
line as the output.
A call's one answer has to reach the console inside its thirty seconds, so
link.AnswersWithin lets a handler that waits on purpose hold its answer up to
LongestAnswer (25s) instead of AnswerWithin; the bound is at most 20s, and a
caller following a plan further asks again.

The xz reader keeps one delta or BCJ decoder for every block of a stream and frees them only when the
stream ends, so a file of many tiny blocks grows the heap with its length: about 67 MiB live for a 6 MB
`xz --block-size=1 --delta` file, about 5.6 GiB at the 512 MiB download cap.
The file's framing is now walked first, without decompressing: stream header, each block header, the
LZMA2 chunk headers (each carries its compressed size, so a chunk is skipped unread), padding, check,
index and footer. A file of more than 1,024 blocks or 16 streams is refused, as is an index whose block
count is not the count walked. The index alone is not trusted because the reader compares it with the
blocks only after decoding them all, so a lying index would still be decoded. Refusing delta and BCJ
outright was not chosen: it needs the same walk to see each block header, and would refuse sound
releases filtered with BCJ.
1,024 blocks keep at most about 0.35 MiB of decoders. Betterbird's archive is 1 stream with 1 block;
multi-threaded xz cuts blocks of 3 times the dictionary, so 512 MiB in blocks of 512 KiB still fits.
The library stays unforked.

The issue tracker holds a fix to the budget of the slowest-budgeted module it
moves, and gives none to a fix that moves no module (hq ADR 0313 §2). The
walk's class covers every merge a walk carries; the plan's class is the
change's own: core, leaf, or none.

ulikunitz/xz's ReaderConfig.DictCap is a minimum: a stream asking for a
1 GiB or 4 GiB dictionary was given it. github.com/therootcompany/xz, a port

larger before allocating it. 64 MiB, xz's largest preset.

Root chowns a directory to the number its owner's setting names, so a key
an owner asks for must not change through the settings verb: any caller
could have set puid to 0 or to its own uid. TerminalKeys now takes every
${setting:…} in a directory's owner, whatever else asks for it, and the
owner is written as the parsed number so "0001" never reaches the
node-engine as text (review 60).
A media manager runs as the puid/pgid its assignment sets per node, but a
declared directory's owner was literal, so a folder the app must write was
refused on a machine whose identity was not the image's default. A
directory's owner now takes ${setting:<key>} (user, or user:group), filled
at composition and refused unless the value is a whole number, and the
module check refuses any other shape or a key the module asks for nowhere
else.

Betterbird's pinned .tar.xz failed on the build seat with "this build seat has
no xz to read it": the seat's image is the catalogue's build-agent recipe,
which installs git and docker-cli alone, and xz had been added only to
cmd/mesh-builder/Dockerfile, which the seat does not build from. The stream
is now read with github.com/ulikunitz/xz (vendored), its dictionary capped
at xz's own largest preset, and what it unpacks to bounded as before; the
xz line in the unused Dockerfile is taken back out.

The real mesh-vault manifest declares its directories without a path, so the
list left its state and ledger out, and a place still holding a placeholder
vanished from it without a word. The provider's directories are now resolved
where the node places them, an unresolved place fails the composition naming
the module, and a node-reads holder whose account is put in a group is refused.

The queue verb answered only a table, so nothing outside the controller
could say an ask's place in the queue. It now asks its command for JSON:
each ask's state, kind, repository, commit, machine, since and position
among the waiting, with the table carried beside it and answered as the
verb's output, both written from one read. A repository's password, if
one were ever written into it, is left out of what is shown.

Before the node-engine gives a mesh directory its mode and owner only through
a walk that follows no link another account could make, the operator is to
see which directories that walk would refuse on every node, the control-node
included, where no tool reads a path. `node judge-directories <node>` signs
the ask as a hand-over is, under its own context, and prints the engine's
one line per directory; it changes nothing, so it is a seat verb an agent may
call. The node is granted the subject, the controller alone its publish.

Reading a file, searching one, listing a directory, the owner and mode of each
component of a path and looking up an account had no mesh tool, so they went
through the login shell's execute as the operator's account. node-reads is a
node seat with six verbs, each saying the commands it replaces. Its holder must
run as an account of its own (ADR 0310 §3), and its own runtime is given
MESH_SECRET_PLACES: the directory of every module's own secret, every credential
file and grant directory, the vault's directories and the sealed-secret keep,
so it refuses them by name before any read (§5).

assign read the whole mesh before its write, to record the seats held by
derivation, and that read printed on standard error that the node did not
resolve for lack of the seat the act was about to give it. The seat verb
answers with both streams, so the stale line came last and named the
assignment just made as its remedy.
The reads inside an act no longer print 'left out' lines; the node's
unmet seat dependencies and whether it resolves come from one planFor
taken after the write, and every other machine from blockedElsewhere.
unassign now says when its node does not resolve, from the same
resolution.

The url was skipped by the installation check, so an installation's host or
an address passed; it is judged whole now, the vendor's host declared in the
artifact's names-on-purpose, and an address or a reserved name as the host
is refused. Only the version's dotted-quad reading is skipped. The unpack
caps its entries, drains xz before waiting for it, reads a pax global
header and a nested within's parents, and a redirect off https is not
followed.
A mail client's release is about 80 MB per version, too large to keep in a
repository at every upgrade, and an add-on whose licence forbids copying it
to third parties may not be in a repository at all. An archive artifact may
now name url, sha256 and version (and file or within) instead of from: the
build seat fetches it once, refuses it when its digest is not the pin's and
names both, keeps it in its workspace under the digest (a vendor that serves
only its newest version cannot break a later build of the same pin), and
packs it like any archive, so a node gets the mesh's own archive by digest
and never asks the vendor. The build seat's image carries xz, which Go's
standard library does not read. The installation check takes the vendor's
address and version of such a pin for the world's, as a registry is an
image's.

A path beginning with the same letters is another path, and a read-only mount
of a read-write access is still granted: the grant follows what mounts it.
Each read-write access is composed with a grant: the module's containers that
mount its path and the account its tools run as (the operator's, or the module's
own under ADR 0259 §8); that runtime restarts on the access, so it holds a group
the engine put its account in. A read access grants nothing. Sent only to an
engine whose statement says GrantContract (4), since an older one refuses the
field. Pins the node-engine at the branch that reads it.
That check answered once, so the build queue is the wrong place to look.
mesh-delivery names the delivery's state as data (held); the controller
reads it and never the words. A line without it keeps the advice of 438.
After mesh-catalog #166 merges and before the bus upgrade, the bus's
machine cannot be pushed, so any change to the composed list made the
list check read behind for good: every ask was withheld and the condition
named a push that is refused. An older module's allowed now counts as
held, the unconfirmed reload said once; the worst case is one ask refused
in the seconds before a reload, which is asked again (issue 369).
The list check stays for a module that says not allowed or cannot answer,
and its remedy is the plan's own reason when the list cannot be composed,
the bus upgrade while sends there wait on it, and a push otherwise. An
in_force false is a wait only when the module gives both times; otherwise
what is not known is named.
A bus module older than its in_force answer read as not held, so a merge
before mesh-catalog #166 is live would silence every ask until a person's
bus upgrade. Such an answer now falls back to the check main makes (is the
list sent to the bus's machine the one composed now), says the reload is
not confirmed, and each case names its own remedy: push <node> for a list
behind or not allowing it, a ~5 s wait for a reload, the bus upgrade when
an older module's list cannot be judged.
change held asking back, a list sent was taken for a list the bus enforces, a plan that could not be
worked out read as not behind, and no test held the real judgement. Now the asker asks only when the
composition grants the controller itself to publish its ask, and the bus's own module says that grant
is in force on the running server (nats_user_can's in_force, mesh-catalog); each fact not known is not
held, said with why. brokerBehind takes a list nobody could compose as behind.
closedNames returned as soon as the bus's closed-connections list held
anything, which could be the test's own setup connection closing before
the verb subprocess's connection did. That raced TestAVerbsOwnProcessNamesItsConnection
red about once in 80 runs. It now waits until the connection it is named
for appears, or the deadline passes.

cancel, clear and rebuild kept a walk's end or restart without saying it, as plans stop, retry and
release-backlog did before them. The controller's run now says every save a verb makes on the bus, so the
next verb cannot lose a mark the same way. A stop is cleared when a walk is resumed, so one that fails again
ends failed and the search for its merge runs (review 21, ADR 0308, issue 532).
plans stop|close, plans retry and upgrade release-backlog kept a walk's start or end mark without saying it,
so the router would hold what the walk touched until its bound; each now runs on the bus as plans go does.
A hand stop keeps who stopped it, so its outcome is stopped, not failed (review 15, ADR 0308, issue 532).
The router holds what an open walk touches and tells its result once; it can do so
only if plan-moved names the walk's start and end, the modules and machines it moves,
what a moved tool runner or node-engine carries there, and how long to hold.

A merge's group member counted as merged when its merge waited in any batch,
but kinds never share a batch: the later member got a batch of its own, cut
at once, and walked before the earlier member's batch was cut, breaking the
group's order (ADR 0276 §5). Only a member kept in a batch of the merge's own
kind counts as merged now; one kept in the other kind's keeps the merge
waiting, and its batch names that member, so the two are cut in the order
their windows close (review of #250).

A merge from any head waited for the window because the controller could not
see a group's members, so the window skip changed nothing in production and
unrelated merges walked one after another. The controller now asks
mesh-delivery's groups, within 3 s and before the plans are held: a merge
waits only when its head's group has another member whose pull request is
open and whose merge it does not keep yet (ADR 0306 §2). No answer means it
waits, and its batch says why. A headed merge in no waiting group and related
to no batch is cut at once, as one from no head is (ADR 0304 §1, ADR 0306 §3).
The controller's grant names mesh-delivery.groups. The installer's first user
list in mesh-host must carry it too before the genesis test can pass.
A merge waited the whole window even when nothing assembling shared anything
with it. It now joins only a batch it is related to (ADR 0304 §1, read by ADR
0306 §3: repository, a module the cut would move, a graph edge, a group head),
folding the newer into the oldest when it relates to two. A merge related to
none starts a batch whose window is closed at once (PlanBatch.CutAtOnce),
unless its delivery group may still have a member to merge (ADR 0306 §2).
The controller cannot see a group's unmerged members (that is mesh-delivery's
record), so a merge from any head still waits, in a batch of its own: the safe
error is to wait. Walks stay one at a time; a batch cut at once queues behind
an open walk. A stop's merges walked again join a related batch, or their own.

Every look rewrote the condition's value in the conditions bucket, because the
value carried the count of looks, the last look and the newest evidence: 131 647
writes in four days for twelve open conditions, against ADR 0289's rule that a
bucket is written only when what it describes changed. The looks now live in the
controller's store (migration 0095, condition_looks), the bucket holds what a
condition says and is written only when that changes, and the conditions verb and
the condition events put the looks back.
